College Achieves Elklan Award

Horizons College is proud to have recently achieved the Communication Friendly Setting Award from Elklan. This award recognises settings which have taken steps to ensure their environments are communication friendly for learners, and which have staff trained in communication who can implement a variety of strategies to support learners with their communication skills.  

All staff attended 5 Communication Counts sessions run by 2 of the college tutors, focusing on topics such as: 

• Developing staff-learner interactions 
• Asking effective questions/adapting questions 
• Visual strategies 
• Extending vocabulary 
• Using modelling and developing narrative skills
