MP Heidi Alexander Visits Horizons College Interns at Asda Swindon West

MP visit to Project Search

On Thursday, 12th February 2026, Heidi Alexander, MP for South Swindon, visited Horizons College learners, currently completing a supported internship at Asda, Swindon West.

The visited celebrated the success of Project Search, an innovative programme designed to connect young adults with learning disabilities to competitive employment opportunities.

Horizons College have partnered with Asda to provide interns with meaningful on-the-job experience across multiple departments. Throughout the programme, learners rotate through different roles and are supported by dedicated job coach from Horizons College, enabling them to build confidence, independence, and essential workplace skills.

During her visit, Ms. Alexander spoke with interns Alex, James, Saffron, Holly, and Rhys about their experiences on the programme and the skills they are learning. The interns proudly shared how Project Search is preparing them for future employment.

Alex, who has excelled during his placement and now works independently on the shop floor, said:

“I’m learning how a business is run and how each department works efficiently. I think Project Search is has given me the skills to work independently in the future.”

Laura, Horizons College Tutor, who has supported Project Search interns since the scheme launched last year said:

“I am so proud of all the interns. The project is going really well, and they are absolutely thriving in each department. They are learning so many transferable skills and knowledge that will provide them with future opportunities.”

As the project continues to grow, Horizons College, Project Search and Asda remain committed to creating inclusive employment pathways that empower young people with learning disabilities to gain the skills, confidence, and experience they need to secure, meaningful, long-term employment.
