Horizons College Success Story
Tyler is a recent graduate of Horizons College whose career aspirations were always around working within media and journalism. Whilst at Horizons College Tyler began to develop his employability skills in his chosen area of interest and gained a work experience placement at Swindon 105.5FM Radio station. Here he was tasked with researching, writing and recording features based on musicians and artists.
In order to further develop his skills and increase his employability, Tyler began an additional work placement at the Swindon Link Magazine. As well as researching and writing articles, Tyler also learnt to proofread, edit and upload articles to their software platform. These new skills helped to develop Tyler’s ICT, reading and communication skills which were further supported by the functional skills and employability lessons he was taking whilst at college.
Tyler proved himself through his hard work and enthusiasm whilst on work placement and was able to achieve part-time employment with The Swindon Link magazine when he left college that summer. Tyler also continues to volunteer at Swindon 105.5FM. Through his journalism role, Tyler has covered the opening of new local businesses and interviewed many interesting local figures. Tyler also writes a monthly column in the Swindon Link about his experiences of having autism, a recent edition of this can be found here: https://swindonlink.com/news/tyler-column-ten/
